Lost in Final, Lisicki Keep Smiling

Lost in Final, Lisicki Keep Smiling

London – Sabine Lisicki was unable to stem the tears from his eyes after he lost in the Wimbledon Grand Slam final. But tears do not eliminate Lisicki smile of her beautiful face.

Lisicki had to settle for runner-up after defeated Marion Bartoli in the top of the party on Saturday (06/07/2013). The German was defeated in straight sets by a score of 1-6, 4-6.

When dealing with Bartoli, Lisicki is further supported spectators did not look my best when conquering Serena Williams in the last 16 or Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals. He made a lot of unforced errors. The number of unforced errors to 25, while only 14 Bartoli.

“I feel good this morning, but this is an opportunity that you do not get every day,” said Lisicki in the tournament’s official website.

“This is really new for me. Everything is different. I was drained after two weeks, so many tough games, if you’ve got a tough draw like me.”

“Marion did not have to get rid of any big players. Against top players is different. They are heavier, longer. Rallies you have a power drain.”

Lisicki statement is true. He should meet the top players in the previous round as Francesca Shiavone (French Open champion 2010), Samantha Stosur (U.S. Open champion 2011), Serena (the world number one, collecting 16 Grand Slam titles), and Radwanska (number four the world). Meanwhile, Bartoli to qualify for the final once did not clash with the world top ten rankings.

“Physically and mentally I was not 100 percent. I get rid of three Grand Slam champion and should play to score 9-7 in the third set against Radwanska two days ago. Fresher Marion. Bit sad because I could not show my best game,” said Lisicki.

Although sad and disappointed, Lisicki could still show a smile after the game. He smiled as Bartoli held her in front of the net. When facing the photographers in the photo sessions, the 23-year-old virgin still well into a smile. When asked for a signature before leaving the court, Lisicki once again smiling.

“I show my best tennis here. I get rid of the champion and runner-up last year. Was pretty big,” said Lisicki.

“This tournament has certainly made me a better player. These days is tough, but this experience will help me in the future. Still believe I will be a champion one day,” he said.

CALIFORNIA – The Honda rider, Marc Marquez, claimed to be flattered by the praise given Valentino Rossi. Moreover, the Yamaha rider was the hero for Marquez.

As reported earlier, Rossi gave kudos to the rookie after victory on MotoGP series United States, last week. Where Marquez was recorded as the first rookie to win at Laguna Seca.

Rossi is MotoGP world champion seven times the judge that Marquez could be the greatest driver of all time. He also considered the successor to Casey Stoner could continue with glorious achievements, especially its youth.

“It’s hard to hear exactly what Valentino (Rossi) because my face gets flushed! Valentino is one of my heroes, one of the most important figures in MotoGP – in motor racing,” said Marquez as reported by Crash.

“When you listen to the words it was quite impressive, but the track conditions are very different. You have to give 100 percent, though still impressive to hear anything about it,” said the 20-year-old drivers.

Until the ninth series, the Spaniard won three times and only once failed to win on the podium. The achievement makes Marquez at the top of the MotoGP standings with 163 achievement points.

Revisiting the Chris Wondolowski argument, now in a bigger and better context

Revisiting the Chris Wondolowski argument, now in a bigger and better context

The book on Chris Wondolowski has usually read like this: sensational striker in league play who may be stretched to make an impact internationally.

It’s really not an awful thing to pin on someone; nobody is accusing the man of drowning kittens here. Taylor Twellman and Jason Kries were other examples of terrific strikers in Major League Soccer who probably reached their top level in league soccer.

Only, with Wondolowski, a few fans and a selected bunch from the chattering class got caught up in the moment and lost some larger context recently. The Earthquakes’ forward did hit six goals in three matches – but the quality of competition was league level. Given international caliber service and backed by international level teammates, Wondolowski is certainly capable of doing the business against overmatched regional small fries.

But it always looked like typical sports overreaction, this flawed tendency to make big, sweeping judgments from every match. (Or, in this case, the false bottom of a short series of them.)

So a week ago, some people were already handing him a ticket to Brazil. Very prematurely so. I wrote as much six days ago.

Now here we are today with two more samples to study. Wondolowski went 77 minutes last week against Costa Rica and then 60 on Sunday against El Salvador. Total goals: zero.

(MORE: What we learned about the United States vs. El Salvador)

He wasn’t awful, not by any stretch. “Wondo” is just not the difference maker that Landon Donovan is. He’s not the athlete that Eddie Johnson is. He doesn’t have the ability to create on his own the way some others in the U.S. player pool can. Wondolowski’s game gets somewhat limited at international level.

Here’s what MLSSoccer.com’s player ratings had to say: “One simple assist pass aside, Wondo was often either stranding himself from the offense or slowing it down. It didn’t help his cause that Eddie Johnson replaced him with such a strong display.”

The New York Times was more harsh still in its ratings. “Never seemed to find a place in the quick-moving U.S. attack.”  Jeff Carlisle at ESPN FC did like the striker’s link-up play, offering that is “was miles better than it was against Costa Rica, as he set up Corona’s goal and sprung Donovan with a telling through ball.” But he also noted the struggle “with some of El Salvador’s physical antics.”

It’s not over; two matches remain. The problem is Johnson, the Seattle Sounders’ striker scored immediately upon coming on Sunday. He seems certain to start in Wednesday’s semifinal, which means the San Jose man’s minutes will dwindle fast.

As I also wrote last week, roster spots are always a zero-sum game; for every roster winner there is a roster loser, in other words. Wondolowski may or may not make the final 23 for Brazil, but you have to circle the man you want knocked aside.

Jurgen Klinsmann pattern of player selection says that Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, Herculez Gomez and Eddie Johnson are all ahead of Wondolowski in the forward depth  pool. (Depending on how you want to count Dempsey, that is.) Landon Donovan is, too; we can probably all agree on that.

Today, Joe Corona looks more likely to make the roster than Wondolowski, even if he is  playing a slightly different position. Either way, it’s a roster spot, and that’s one more obstacle in a very good forward’s path to Brazil.

‘Conditions Not Cause Problems Circuit in Silverstone Tyres’

Silverstone – The Pirelli reveals several possible causes of tire burst incidents including curbs fringe circuit conditions. Allegation was immediately denied by the manager of Silverstone Circuit.

In the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit on Sunday (06/30/2013) evening local time, there were at least four riders who had broken tire.

Over the incident, the tire supplier arena racing, pole, Pirelli, promised to conduct an investigation. Although reluctant to speculate, they already mentioned some estimates about the cause of several incidents at Silverstone.

On suspicion of curb suburban conditions unsafe, President of the British Racing Drivers Club, Derek Warwick, direct defense.

“Fringe curbs has been used since 2009. We’ve seen a lot of cars drove through the outskirts of the curb, and they are not having problems,” said Warwick as reported by Reuters.

“We ensure the outskirts curbs have been checked by the FIA and the edges of it in accordance with applicable regulations.”

“We have to ensure a good race here at Silverstone, to bring the audience back to the circuit next year. So, if say I panicked a statement that it is an understatement,” he added.

Susie Wolff set for full Formula 1 test for Williams

Susie Wolff set for full Formula 1 test for Williams

Susie Wolff will have her first full Formula 1 test at the wheel of a Williams in this week’s ‘young-driver’ test at Silverstone.

The Scot will drive on Friday, with race driver Pastor Maldonado in action on Thursday, while Spaniard Daniel Juncadella is set to test on Wednesday.

Teams are being allowed to run race drivers for one day at the test on 17-19 July to evaluate new tyres.

Wolff, 30, is currently the development driver for Williams.

She raced in the DTM German touring car championship for seven years before quitting the series to concentrate on her work with the British outfit.

Susie Wolff

Susie Wolff

Born: 6/12/82, Oban, Scotland

Role: Williams development driver

Previous racing experience: 2006-12 DTM German touring cars. Always driving at least a year-old car; best result ninth. 2005 – Formula Three in UK; 2001-4 – Formula Renault in UK

Married to Toto Wolff, Mercedes director of motorsport and executive director (business) Mercedes F1 team. Shareholder in Williams

It is not the first time Wolff has driven an F1 car – she had a familiarisation test with Williams last October and was the first to drive the team’s 2013 car this year at an aerodynamic test in February, and described the Silverstone test as “a fantastic opportunity”.

Wolff added: “It’s going to be a big challenge but the most important thing is to do a solid and consistent job and to give good feedback to the team to be able to prove I am at the level to compete on a day such as this.

“Most of my work is based in the simulator which is why this day is so important for me.

“It will give me a better understanding of what the car is like on track and how that correlates to the simulator which will also help further develop the work I can do there.

“I am not naive enough to think it will be easy. I know it’s going to be tough and a big challenge but the team have prepared me well and I just need to believe in myself. I will go out there and do the best I can.”

The last woman to enter the F1 world championship was Italian Giovanna Amati, who failed to qualify for three races with Brabham in 1992 before being dropped. The last woman to race an F1 car was Italian Lella Lombardi in 1976.

Only two other teams have so far confirmed their line-ups.

Lotus will use Kimi Raikkonen on the final day of the test with Frenchman Nicolas Prost – the son of four-time world champion Alain Prost – driving on Wednesday and reserve driver Davide Valsecchi on Thursday.

McLaren and Red Bull have chosen not to use their race drivers.

Reserve driver Gary Paffett (Friday) and young drivers Kevin Magnussen and Oliver Turvey will test the McLaren.

Portuguese Antonio Felix Da Costa, a contender for a Toro Rosso seat in 2014, will take the first two days for Red Bull, with Spain’s Carlos Sainz coming in on Friday.

Sauber will use Nico Hulkenberg on Thursday, and split the rest of its programme between reserve driver Robin Frijns and Japanese former Formula 3 driver Kimiya Sato.

The ‘young-driver’ test is an attempt to allow teams to try out drivers who have not yet raced in F1 – the rules dictate that those taking part must have competed in no more than two grands prix.

But this stipulation was waived following the problems at the British Grand Prix to allow Pirelli to try out its new tyre design on the track that had caused the most problems.

A series of problems all contributed to six drivers suffering blowouts during the race.

Although Pirelli said the manner in which the teams were operating the tyres was partially to blame, the biggest single cause is believed to have been a weakness in the construction of the 2013 tyre at the shoulder, where the sidewall meets the tread.

Pirelli has decided to revert to the construction used in 2012,which has a stronger shoulder, from the Hungarian Grand Prix, but combined with the softer rubber compounds used so far in 2013.

As there were no similar problems last year, none are expected with the new design, but the Silverstone test gives Pirelli a chance to make sure before the teams reach the races at Spa in Belgium and Suzuka in Japan, which make even more extreme demands of the tyres.

Mercedes will not feature at the test because of their ban for taking part in the controversial Pirelli tyre test.
